Avoid Garbage Fires at Bengkala TPA, Buleleng Regency DLH Implements Sanitary Landfill System

To prevent fires in the landfill at Bengkala TPA, the Environmental Service (DLH) uses the Sanitary Landfill system or a waste management system with a landfill. This was conveyed directly by the Head of the Buleleng Regency Environmental Service, Gede Melandrat when he visited Bung Karno's green open space on Tuesday (27/7).

Furthermore, the Head of Mellandrat said that by implementing the system, later it could avoid the occurrence of waste fires due to substances released by the waste itself. "Yesterday we covered the garbage with landfill which received land supply assistance from the Tamblang Dam," he said.

In addition, the former Head of the Buleleng Regency Food and Fisheries Security Office said this system is very effective and efficient, because landfilling with landfill will accelerate the decomposition process which will periodically reduce waste buildup and reduce odors.

"We don't deny that if this pile of garbage is not managed properly, it will certainly be over capacity. For that, through this opportunity, we appeal to all stakeholders according to Bali Governor Regulation No. 47 of 2019 concerning Source-Based Waste Management, starting from households to be able to sort waste so that the waste can be valuable, useful, not a problem," he hoped.

Melandrat added that at the Bengkala TPA, the waste sorting process takes a long time and requires a lot of personnel. If the waste that comes to the Bengkala TPA has been sorted, both organic and non-organic, the effective and optimal waste management will indirectly extend the life or capacity of the Bengkala TPA.
