How are you, PT Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia (PT PMI).

Several foreign companies have relocated or moved their factories from China to Indonesia. One of them is a washing machine manufacturer from PT Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia (PT PMI). The company has now succeeded in making its first export to Japan.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the relocation and export of washing machine products to Japan was very encouraging. This is because the country is known to have a very sensitive and selective market regarding product quality. This means that the quality of PT PMI's washing machines has been recognized.

"Today we are releasing the first export of washing machine products from PT Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia (PT PMI) to Japan. This is the result of the relocation of washing machine products from China," he said in his virtual speech at the First Export of Washing Machine Products, Thursday (23rd). /9/2021). In addition to washing machines, the government also relocated AC production from Malaysia to Indonesia, as well as relocated refrigerator production from Thailand, whose products will be exported to Japan and Hong Kong. In addition, there is a relocation of washing machine production from Taiwan to Indonesia which will later be exported to Taiwan. The Ministry of Industry noted that washing machine exports reached US$ 14 million throughout 2020, up 107% compared to 2019 at US$ 6.76 million. In the first semester of 2021, washing machine exports reached US$ 4.85 million.

Agus explained that the management and improvement of the business climate has been accommodated by Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation. In the law, industrial players in Indonesia get various facilities, ranging from business licenses to the provision of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives. This is in line with the government's desire to accelerate the handling and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, which both prioritize health and economic recovery.

"The government continues to strive to maintain the level of industrial resilience in the country through several strategic policies, for example in the form of providing stimulus or incentives so that industry players can overcome the challenges of the pandemic and continue to grow," he said.

In the second quarter of 2021, Indonesia's economic growth rose significantly to reach 7.07%. The sector that contributed the most was the manufacturing industry, which recorded growth of 6.91% despite being under pressure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The growth of the manufacturing industry sector is partly due to several investors who continue to believe in realizing their investment in Indonesia. This means that the policies issued by the government are currently on the right track," Agus explained.

In January-June 2021, the realization of investment in the industrial sector reached Rp 167.1 trillion or contributed 37.7% of the total national investment value which reached Rp 442.7 trillion. Not only that, the investment value of the industrial sector in the first semester of 2021 increased by 29% compared to the same period in 2020 of Rp 129.6 trillion.

During the six months of this year, the value of domestic investment (PMDN) from the industrial sector was Rp 46.3 trillion or contributed 21.6 percent of the total PMDN which reached Rp 214.2 trillion. Meanwhile, the value of foreign investment (PMA) from the industrial sector was IDR 120.8 trillion or contributed 52.9% of the total FDI which reached IDR 228.5 trillion.

Director-General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Taufiek Bawazier explained that PT PMI's exports show that Indonesian products can compete in the global arena.

"We are optimistic that Indonesia can become a champion in the electronics industry sector," he explained.

Taufiek continued, the Ministry of Industry is pushing for a 35 percent import substitution program by the end of 2022. One of the strategies is to deepen the industrial structure through increasing domestic production of electronic components.
